OUR STORY

Akaraka is much more than a restaurant – it is a place where a special connection between people is created through food, music and encounters.

The founder, Han Pyong-chin, worked as an opera singer at the Zurich Opera House from 1996 to 2008. After an unexpected accident, he partially lost his hearing – he still suffers from sudden hearing loss, tinnitus, and hyperacusis. Loud environments pose great difficulties for him. And yet: Every evening he stands on stage and sings – for his guests, for music, for life.

During this difficult period, he searched for a new direction in life and decided to promote Korean cuisine and culture in Zurich. Together with a former stage colleague, he subsequently founded Akaraka.

Over the years, Akaraka has evolved from a restaurant into a cultural hub. Since moving to its current location in 2019, Akaraka offers a unique experience every evening: a small concert paired with Korean cuisine. Tradition and modernity blend seamlessly here – on the plate as well as in the music.

To this day, Han Pyong-chin himself is in the kitchen, maintaining direct contact with his guests. Through his dishes, the atmosphere, and his singing every evening, a personal connection is created – and for every guest, an unforgettable moment.
